Mech Bay Project Part 3

More Emails about concerns of project scope & design

12-7-06 Email from Sparky:
"I brought Larry J in since he had a paper mech on its way, and John since he has a dashi.

talked with Larry last night.
Tony has got some concept sketches of a mech bay from a cutaway mountain side idea.

This is good for mechs in the bay but should a Dashi, come about we will have to display it out side the bays, they'd be just to large to fit inside.  Also finished hover tanks (those from neil were supposed to be for the mech project too) would probably look better out-and-about.

My mech has already had a lot of work done to it to make it so I could light the laser cannons.  So I planed on having him out of the bay, test firing, say into one of the really mis cast hover tanks.

The refinery references I linked to were simply to show that a mech bay in the side of mountain can be done in a convincing way so that even the few trees left standing don't need greenery.  Also doing neat rock face with foam is easy.  If we go with free standing hanger bay style buildings, we have to consider building and or casting external walls, which is as much work as using foam.

The idea of having an outside as well as an inside lets us have mechs and equipment not just on the inside.  It also allows for some dress up of the mountain side (gun emplacements, mech bay doors.

The other option is to dress the base up so that you see it as a mountain section on a hex base, as though it were apart of a gaming board.  This would allow deployed mechs to be standing on a hex base, or a few hex bases next to the mountain side, they don't need to be connected only oriented so that you recognize that they are all part of a 1:32 mech game board, and thus apart of the same display.

12-7-06 Email from Tony to Sparky:
"Hi Joe,

Yep Larry S. called me last night and we discussed the project.  Did he show you the VERY EARLY concepts?
They are still early and not concrete.
What we were basically discussing is trying to keep the individual mech bases small yet they can be configured into something huge and complex.
Rather than an outdoor setting I was mulling over an indoor one.  An interior just inside the garage doors, which would be easier to do rather than worrying about replicating mother natures mountain scapes.
I worked on a few more small sketches between deliveries today just to play with ideas.  I wish I had more time to sketch but it's getting really busy at the USPS at this time of year.

I'll try to send the the new batch of sketches off to Larry and he can send them to you if you would like.

Tony
