October, 2004 Meeting
Macross VF-4
^ Neil P's Macross VF-4

From soon to be ex-president, Terry Miesle.  There's some notes about upcoming events and donation drives at the end, so please take a moment to read that even if you skip everything else.

Hi, everyone.

If you didn't make it to the meeting, you missed a good one.  I've been saying that a lot, seems like. We've been a pretty productive group though.

News you ask?

The Butch O'Hare show is next weekend.  You've got a bit over a week to finish those projects.

Bill Adams is building some dinosaurs.  Who, you ask?  Yeah, Bill hasn't been to a meeting for a while.  He's building some life-sized dinosaurs, and in the spring they should be ready for painting.  We'll try to keep track of his progress and let people know when he needs a few extra hands.

Show and Tell:

Neil P. brought the Anigrand XF-108 Rapier by Anigrand.  He bought this at the Kalamazoo show a few weeks earlier and had finished much of the primary construction of this nice-sized resin kit.   It will be a part of a display featuring the XB-70 Valkyrie.

He also brought his finished VF-4 Lightning from Macross.

Ken brought a big transforming Monster from Macross.  It's a veritable puzzle of parts and somehow transforms from its artillary mecha mode to a big aircraft.

Ken also showed off his progress on a vinyl Gunbuster mech.

Neil B. brought the Unicraft White Knight kit, just days after the successful second flight of Spaceship One.  This is an interesting kit, which may fall prey to the harsh mistress Gravity with its long, thin resin wings.

Chad's begun working on trucks again - finally!  We want to see another Mack from you soon, bud.

John Lester is navalizing a P-47 as part of our airplane-swap project.  It will be a tri-color Marines version.  He brought the detailed engine.

Joe brought Kip Hart's Narn G'Quon cruiser, very big and very nice looking.  He also brought circuit diagrams for the TOS-Enterprise nacelle electronics.  They've been designed to fit within the nacelles, now he needs to have them machine-built.

I brought along the resin 1/2500 Akula kit soon to be released by Starship Modeler.  I also brought the Larson conversion mostly-finished, for the 1/1000 Enterprise kit, and my Corsair painted up as a 1942 USAAC bird in John Godfrey's markings.

Ken showed us how he made a home-built vacuformer.  It's a breadpan, pegboard and screen and wood frame, with rubber gaskets for air sealing.  It's pretty simple and looks quite effective.   Hopefully Joe has some pictures.

On a serious note, this month's elections reminds us that my term as your beloved Presidente is nearly over.  It's hard to believe two years has passed, even harder to believe that since I'm the third president our club is approaching the start of its seventh year.  We will hold elections during our traditional December Potluck meeting.  As I will join the other two deposed dictators for life, Art Krull and John McDannell for relaxing lives at our Dachas, another President is required to step forward. So, something to think about anyway.

Maybe I'll see ya at the Butch O'Hare show, it depends on what my schedule is like.  I'm going to the Ohio State vs. Purdue game, which starts at 2:30 so maybe I'll swing by in the morning.

Ter

A couple of further notes:

We need to decide where we'll get together for the December meeting, which will be on Saturday, December 11 (unless there are objections?).  Anyone care to host?

All club officer positions are up for vote at that meeting .... but you have to be an current IPMS member to do so, and President, Veep and Secretary have to be IPMS members as well.

Also, we'll use that meeting to collect donations for the Toys for Tots drive.

Joe 'Sparky' Suttie is heading up a group effort to donate kits and supplies to the Bagdad Hobby Club.   This program distributes donated hobby items -- including models -- to American servicemen in Iraq and is supported by HobbyTown USA® and other hobby manufacturers. Contact Joe at kc6sye@comcast.net if you haven't been in on the eMail exchanges yet.
